Lifting and positioning of 2 concrete prefab pillar structures

Scaldis was contracted for a very challenging lift by Van Hattum en Blankevoort for the lifting and positioning of 2 concrete prefab pillar structures for the Selective Exploitation.

Heavy lift vessel Gulliver was mobilized to IJmuiden for the hoisting of two pillars for the IJmuiden salt dam in the ‘Binnenspui’ channels. Each pillar weighed 3000 tons, a heavy lift which was a perfect match for the Gulliver.

In order to realise the construction of the ‘Zoutdam’, two large concrete pillars needed to be installed between the Noordzeekanaal and Binnenspuikanaal. Besides weighing almost 3000 tons, each pillar had a height of 27,5 meters and a width of 8 meters. After the pillars were built on the quayside, the ‘South Pillar’ was lifted and positioned first by the Gulliver, followed by the lifting and positioning of the ‘North Pillar’. The process involved shifting, mooring, rigging, lifting and crew transfer operations.

Scaldis SMC is very proud of its team and vessel the Gulliver for successfully completing this large project for Van Hattum en Blankevoort!
