The Nordergründe project is located within Germany’s territorial waters in the North Sea. The OWF Nordergründe consists of 18 multi-megawatt wind turbines of the type Senvion 6M126 with a hub height of 84 m LAT and is located 34 km north of Wilhelmshaven and 34 km west of Cuxhaven, respectively.
The water depth is shallow, ranging between 2.5 m and 10 m LAT. However, the sea bed is subject to dynamic geomorphological processes resulting in water depth variations over time. The whole wind farm covers an area of approximately 3.5 km2.
SCALDIS SCOPE
Transport and installation of the Nordergründe substation.
WPD contracted Scaldis to install the first bolted substation for the Nordergründe offshore wind farm. The topside weighing more than 2,000 tonnes, was lifted and installed on a monopile foundation flange. The alignment of the two flanges was the main challenge during this project.
Close cooperation between the engineering departments of WPD and Scaldis was essential for the success from this project.
