Scaldis was contracted for a very challenging lift by Van Hattum en Blankevoort for the lifting and positioning of 2
concrete prefab pillar structures for the Selective Exploitation.

Heavy lift vessel Gulliver was mobilized to Ijmuiden for the hoisting of two pillars for the Ijmuiden salt dam in the
‘Binnenspui’ channels.

In order to realise the construction of the ‘Zoutdam’, two large concrete pillars need to be installed between the
Noordzeekanaal and Binnenspuikanaal. These pillars each weigh almost 3000t and are very similar. They have a
height of 27,5 meters and a width of 8 meters They were built on the quayside and had to be positioned in a constructionpit.

First the ‘South Pillar’ was lifted and positioned by the HLV, followed by the lifting and positioning of the ‘North Pillar’.

The scope included; engineering of the entire lifting operation, set-up mooring which also contained the application of land anchors, set-up lifting procedures, rigging calculation, mooring analysis, provision of rigging and mooring equipment and execution of the pre-rigging activities.
